Aykley Heads House is a grade II* listed former country villa that was once the seat of the family who owned the Aykley Heads Estate, now headquarters of Durham County Council. The principal rooms of the property contain some very fine 18th century plasterwork and joinery. It was badly damaged by fire in 1991. Rivergreen carried out a 3 year programme of conservation and repairs after acquiring the property in 1994. The main part of the house is now a self-contained office of 500 sq m (5,370 sq ft) while the former service wing is home to Bistro 21, an award-winning restaurant.

The office element of Aykley Heads House is presently let on a medium term lease.
